The Prince of Dol Amroth; at the time of the War of the Ring, the chief nobleman of Gondor after the House of Hurin (the Line of the Ruling Stewards). He was the son of Adrahil and brother of the Lady Finduilas, wife of Steward Denethor II.
Imrahil was also a mighty warrior -and to the siege of Minas Tirith he brought seven hundred styurdy Dunedain of Belfalas, strenghtened by a company of mounted men. (This latter force constituted Gondor's sole cavalry arm until the arrival of the Rohirrim.) He commanded the City when both the Steward and his heir, Faramir, were stricken during the Siege, and later fought gallantly in battle on the Pelennor Fields and before the Black Gate of Mordor. His daughter Lothiriel later wedded King Eomer of Rohan.
Note : although Imrahil was of unmixed Dunedain lineage, his name was of Numenorean(I.e Adunaic) form - unlike most folk of Gondor, whose names were of Sindarin (grey-elven) form.

Imrahil était le Prince de Dol Amrroth à l'époque de la Guerre de l'Anneau. C'était un des plus grands nobles du Gondor aprés la Maison de Hurin (la Lignée des Intendants Régnants). Il était le fils d'Adrahil et le frère de la Dame Finduilas, épouse de l'Intendant Denethor II.
Imrahil était aussi un grand guerrier - et au siège de Minas Tirith il amena sept cents solides fantassins, renforcés par une compagnie de cavaliers. (cette force constituait la seule cavalerie du Gondor jusqu'à l'arrivée des Rohirrim). Il commanda la Cité alors que l'Intendant et son héritier, Faramir, avaient été abattus au cours du siège, et plus tard combattit vaillamment pendant la bataille des Champs du Pelennor et devant la Porte Noire au Mordor. Par la suite sa fille Lothiriel se maria avec Eomer, Roi du Rohan.
Note : Bien qu'Imrahil fut de pure lignée Dunadan, son nom était en langage Numénoréen (Adunaic)- à la difféence de la plupart des gens du Gondor, dont les noms étaient en langage Sindarin (Elfe Gris).
